Kendrick Lamar is headed for the Big Easy as he prepares to take the stage at the 2025 NFL championship.
The Grammy Award winner was announced Sunday as the headliner for the Super Bowl LIX Apple Music halftime show, which is presented by Roc Nation and scheduled for Feb. 9, 2025 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date,” he said in a statement. “And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
In an Instagram Reel shared by Lamar, he fed footballs through a throwing machine as he stood in front of a giant American flag, giving some motivational words to someone off camera.
“What’s the deal, everybody? My name’s Kendrick Lamar, and I’ll be performing at Super Bowl 59,” he said. “Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know there’s only one opportunity to win a championship, no round twos. … I wouldn’t want you to miss it. Meet me in New Orleans, February 9, 2025. Wear your best dress too, even if you’re watching from home.”
Roc Nation founder Jay-Z also celebrated the news. “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer,” he said in a statement. “His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
Lamar previously performed at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show in 2022, along with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige.
